Alex Ressel is a London-based writer, artist and filmmaker.
Born in North London, he co-founded Superlative TV in 2012, an art collective that has screened work at The Cube in Bristol and recently exhibited at Enclave Projects in Deptford. Superlative TV broadcast the first video message into deep space in January 2015. He recently wrote a dissertation on individuation and collectivity in Nietzsche and Deleuze for an MA in Modern European Philosophy at CRMEP.Superlative TV began life as a pirate television station, broadcasting in the frequencies left fallow following the digital switchover. We provided an open platform for the transmission of imaginative and thought-provoking work. Superlative TV now operate as a politically engaged moving image production company. We concentrate on producing our own films, which inquire into the nature of collaboration (in Equal Temperament) or common understanding of the present (in our work ETx).
Superlative TV make work for galleries, online and broadcast. Our work frequently investigates the co-constitutive relationship between people and technology. Our work often lends a voice to others, and contemplates the prospect of collective agency.
We enjoy the ambiguity that our name implies in an art context, agreeing with Peter Osborne that fictional artist collectives can attain a semblance of a position of parity required in order to challenge global capital.
